12/19/13 Happy Half-Year Birthday, Penelope!

I'm amazed that time had flown by like it has. Our sweet little baby girl is already 6 months old!! Penelope! Stop growing right now!!
Right now you:
Weigh about 15 lbs and are still tall wearing 9-12 month clothes.

Sleep through the night consistently now! Bed time around 6:30 and wake up around 6:00!

You are taking 1.5 hour naps in the mornings now (finally), but I'm not sure if it's just because you're getting sick.
You're 3 other naps of the day are 45 minutes.

Nurse after each nap and eat baby food 1-2 per day. I try to make about 50% of your food, mainly because it's cheaper.

You won't nap in the stroller, but weve discovered that you love the Ergo carrier and will fall asleep in there if we're out and about! You also like the car.

You can roll easily both ways and have just started sitting up unsupported for a few seconds before folding over to eat your toes.

You love to chew on your toes...and anything cloth!

When I go to pick you up, you get so excited and kick your legs and start to breathe fast. :)

You still have blue eyes and your hair is a light brown color.

You've started saying "bababuhbuh".

You are the smiliest, happiest, most easy-going baby! Everyone thinks you are so sweet because all it takes is for someone to look at you and you give them a big, gummy smile with your tongue out.

Gwen is also adorable these days and Christmas-time is so fun with her. She's starting to warm up to Santa, although the first time she saw him at a party she screamed. This morning we had breakfast with Santa and she didn't cry, but she did look away. When he asked her what she wanted for Christmas, she said baby doll, but still only looking at the ground. So adorable.
Tonight at bedtime she told me she wanted a baby doll, goldfish, peas, ears, and stickers...random, but she'll be getting all that on Christmas morning!

11/19: Baby girl is 5 months old!

Penelope is now 5 months old and it's such a great age! I love this time in her life! At 5 months Penelope, you:

Weigh about 14 lbs and wear 6-9 month clothes. You are taller than average.

Can sit up on my hip when I hold you! Love that! :)

Can roll both ways easily now and actually prefer to be on your tummy.

Can hold things with both hands and try to put everything in your mouth- especially clothing.

Still cry for about 5 min before every nap, and take 4, 45-min naps per day...ugh...

Only like to sleep in your crib, pack n play, or in the car. You have a very hard time sleeping in a busy environment (and at daycare).

Go to sleep around 7pm and sometimes still wake up around 3am, but usually sleep until 6am. Yay!

When we come to get you out if your crib after sleeping, you give us the biggest grins!

Are still so sweet and easy-going!

Started solids at about 5.5 months, but not everyday because we don't have enough time! So far you've tried pears (first food!) and bananas. You spit it out and make the funniest faces, but we just scrape it off your chin and keep putting it back in! :) Gwen gags...it's hilarious.

You've been sick 4x already and usually you smile right through all the snot and coughing...except the RSV- you were pretty fussy when you got that. Oh, and when you had that ear infection...

When you're happy and someone smiles at you, sometimes you will kick yor legs and make your arms stiff and open your eyes really wide. And then you open your mouth and make little fast, happy breaths. It's too cute!

You smile and laugh easily. Especially at your sister! Sometimes when you're looking away, I just kiss you on the cheek, you smile and then I die.

You've made raspberries a few times and have discovered your tongue. It's usually sticking out of your mouth in some fashion these days.

You're "talking" more and more, and I think you're going to start talking for reals earlier than most.

Still love baths!

Your eyes are still blue and your hair is starting to turn blond! Whose child are you? ...we definitely know you're at least Jeff's because you look just like him!

Everybody loves you and thinks you are so adorable and heart-breakingly sweet.

10/19/13: Penelope is 4 months old!

My sweet, darling Penelope, we love you so much. You are so happy and smiley! We got lucky to have such an easy-going baby...although you got your 4 month shots two days ago and you've been very uncomfortable and fussy these past few days. Poor thing is a sensitive sweetheart.

At 4 months, you:
Weigh 13 lbs, 11 oz (50th %ile) and are in the 41st %ile for height (I can't remember how tall they said you were), but to me you seem big...don't know why. Maybe bc you're wearing 6-9 mo clothes...

You just started rolling over easily a few days ago, although it's harder for you to roll from front to back and sometimes get stuck.

Your naps are inconsistent, anywhere from 45 min (usually the norm) to 2 hours (if I'm lucky!).

You go to bed around 7:30 pm and wake up once or twice per night and wake for the day between 6:30 and 8:00 am.

You are getting harder to nurse because you've learned the art of arching your back to look around the room at everything (Gwendolyn and the TV are your favorite things to look at...mommy always turns the TV off when you try to watch). It's so fun trying to wrestle with you so you'll eat...

You are starting to not mind your car seat and sometimes will fall asleep in there if we're out...but it takes a lot of convincing you.

You prefer to sleep in your crib over anything, and you're now putting up a fight at daycare, fussing and not wanting to nap there. You take 4 oz bottles.

You make little happy screaming noises when we come to get you after naps.

When daddy holds you, we call you his little twin, with your matching big eyes and hairdo's! :)

You love love love your sister and she loves cuddling with you, playing with you, and trying to make you smile and laugh. She says your name and tells you "it otay" when you cry. She loves you like crazy!

You are definitely talking more and getting very responsive to faces! Here's hoping these fussy days after your shots ease up soon for you, sweet girl.

We love you, little "Pelly"! :)

9/19/13- "Pelly" is 3 months old

Three months has flown by! I keep thinking about how time is going by much faster with this second baby girl. It's precious time and needs to slow down (well, maybe a little bit)!

Penelope, at 3 months you:
Weigh about 13 lbs and are tall for your age, almost growing out of your 3-6 month clothes!
Had your first laugh today. Beautiful!
Have started to spit up LARGE amounts if we hold you in the wrong way after nursing...the first incident happened in a Target all over Mommy's shirt after I accidentally held you upside down for a few seconds putting on Gwen's shoes. It was a disaster...
Still like to be swaddled for night and naps.
Sleep about 9 hours at night, waking up around 3:30/4:00 for a feeding.
Take about 4 naps per day, for about 45 min each!! Ugh. I hate short naps!
Love to watch your sister, and follow her around the room with your eyes.
Are so smiley, happy and easy-going!
Nurse about 15 minutes each side about every 2-3 hours.
Still enjoy the paci and you are starting to not want to go to sleep easily anymore. You used to cry about 5 minutes. Today you cried for 10-15 min before each nap.
You are getting so much more responsive and fun! You love to look at yourself in the mirror and laugh at that cute baby. :)

8/19/13- Penelope is 2 months old!

Penelope, you are the sweetest, easiest baby! You have made us feel confident in our ability to be good parents to a newborn; even though we haven't done anything different this time, it's just your easy going personality. I love this age...

At 2 months old you:
Weigh about 11 lbs and are tall for your age (already in 6 month onsies).

Smile very easily! When you get happy you wiggle your head back and forth and your arms and legs go straight! It's like you hey so happy, you can't handle it!

Only cry when you're tired or in your carseat.

Still love to be swaddled to sleep.

Are sleeping 8-10 hours at night!!
Take 45 min-2 hour long naps!

Going to daycare on Tues/Thurs and they always say how easy you are.

Still a little fussy in the evenings, but not terrible. You have started to go to bed earlier now, closer to 8 instead of 10.

Love bath time, so you get one every night (along with a massage- love that clean baby smell)! It helps calm you down every time.

Tolerate tummy time for a few minutes, before you start fussing. Not your favorite thing bc you tend to spit up.

Sit in your vibrating chair and follow us with your head as we walk around.

Really love to be held so you can see what's going on in your world.

Love to see your sister and you always smile at her.

We can't imagine life without you now! Mommy's biggest fear right now is SIDS. I also worry about you at the daycare and them not giving you enough attention and giving you the paci too much/not enough and if the pacifier strap might choke you and if you're napping well and if your crib is under the window and if the sun is on your face and if you're getting a sunburn...etc...sigh.

Update on Gwendolyn at 22 months:
Gwen, you are such a big girl and love to help!
Whenever you spill your milk you always run to get a "towa" from the kitchen to clean it up!
You also love to watch mommy change diapers and want me to clean your "han" (hands) before you touch Penelope.
You are so smart and learn things so quickly; the other day I told you it makes mommy happy when you say thank you, and a little while later when I brought you some strawberries I heard a little voice say "ta you"! It melted my heart.
You delete all your final consonants still, but you have started to say /b/, /s/, and /l/ blends! No /f/ yet; I love when you say "ply" (for fly).
You still refuse to say "milk" and will only sign (or cry) for it.
You are trying so hard to assert yourself and do things on your own! You say "no" whenever we want to help you, and end up with applesauce all over you.
Except you still love to be carried and will usually throw yourself on the ground when leaving a place. It's very difficult when you do this and mommy is carrying Penelope. I wish I could still pick you up every time you wanted, but many times I can't and that makes you mad. :(
You've started to use the potty and tell us "poo" whenever you have to go!
You still love baby and bobo, and have them at daycare, but you've stopped crying when we drop you off now!
You are not a happy girl upon waking up...it takes you a while after your nap to cheer up.
We love hearing your little voice say more and more! You say your sisters name a lot and ask to hold her, but then when you do, you either quickly pull your hands away or say "cheese!" (Indicating you want us to take your picture).
You want Penelope around for everything you do, and live to put her toes on your belly. Maybe because you love to put your ties on everything (and them you say "toe toes" while pointing at them, like "hey look, my toe toes ate on Mattie/my banana/the baby/the crayon/the potty/etc".
You still talk about "abi and neh" every day and love being around other kids!

You are so cute with your little self, and we can't get enough of you! I love this age...

7/19/13- 1 month old!

Penelope Jean, at 1 month old:
You weigh 9lbs, 12 oz, (caught up with your sister's birthweight!) and 23 in long.
You are beautiful and have gentle round eyes and are a bit bowlegged.
Your are an easier baby than your sister was so far...
You still sleep A LOT during the day and go to bed around 10, and sleep till 3:30 (5.5 hours!) and then wake up again around 6:30.
Mommy is producing more milk this time and you only feed for 15 minutes on one side every 2-3 hours! (Except at night)
You're starting to get fussier in the evenings.
You have started to smile a little.
You are starting to focus more now and will turn your head to my voice.
You have rolled over from belly to back (!!!) 4 times (most babies wait till 4 months old to do this.)
You don't like to be put down when you are awake and you get gassy.
You fall asleep usually on your own in the bassinet (sometimes with the help of a pacifier). We soothe you, put you down, and you usually fall asleep after some grunting. :)
Your sister loves you so much and likes watching during diaper changes. She also likes to hold you (with our supervision).
You enjoy bath time, too!
You are gorgeous and we love you so much!

Gwen-isms: (22months):
She now goes down slides on her own and then stands up and says "wee!"
She climbs more.
Grandma likes to say she "gets the joke", because she now laughs WITH us.
Yogurt in the eye: "lolo! (Then she holds her and over her eye and yells) "eye!" This started when I asked her if she had yogurt in her eye one night at bedtime- now she says every night. Cutest thing ever.
She still cries when dropped off at daycare.
She likes playing on the iPad, watching Barney, Thomas, and Sesame Street, though we try to limit screen time.
She's started to have mini tantrums and hit Grandma in the face yesterday, which surprised herself.
She will follow directions most of the time, especially if you give her a motivating factor (ex: first have some cucumber, then you can have the cheese).
She LOVES milk (she still only signs or milk), cheese "tee", and yogurt "lolo". She's started to get more picky about food and vegetables.
She freaks out when you try to help her do anything. She wants to feed herself, put her shoes on, carry grocery bags, etc...
She says lots of words, very loudly i might add, although not with perfect pronunciation: Juice-"du", Mattie-Manny", lemonade-"nemenae", Penelope-"Lelly", ipad-"bapa", Abi-"baddy", outside- "sai" etc.

They both start a new daycare on August 8, because ill be going back to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays...I'm pretty nervous o leave Penelope for the first one all day, and nervous about Gwen starting somewhere new. More updates on that o one!

6/19/13- Penelope Jean Troncale was born!

On Wednesday, June 19, 2013, Penelope Jean was born at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, TX at 8 lbs, 19.5 inches.

Our due date was June 26, with the c-section scheduled for June 21- a Friday. We had everything ready and set for Friday- the bags were mostly packed, Jeff had his work notified, and the parents had their flights scheduled for that Tuesday.

We went in for our last prenatal appointment on Tuesday, June 18th. They did an ultrasound to measure fluid and growth. My fluid had been low a few weeks before, but went back up the following week. I had been drinking tons of water in hopes my fluid would stay up, since I was considering a VBAC (but wasn't quite sure if I wanted to risk it). After the ultrasound I told Jeff I hoped the doctor wouldn't say we had to deliver sooner than Friday because I didn't feel ready and I wanted the baby to stay inside me for as long as possible. Of course, Dr. Flowers came in and announced that my fluid was low (it was a 6, and the normal range is 8-12 cm of fluid) and she didn't feel comfortable sending me home.  My options were to deliver right away or get admitted to get an IV and deliver the following day after I had been pumped with fluids.

Since my parents were on a flight to Dallas as we spoke and I wanted my mom in the delivery room, we opted to deliver the following day. Jeff and I walked to L&D and I got admitted.  We were giddy with excitement and nerves- laughing and calling friends and family to let them know the baby was coming sooner than expected! Things slowed down as we waited that day at the hospital to get checked in and get my IV, and get everything set. Jeff went to pick up my parents and brought my mom to the hospital while he went back home with my dad to get the hospital bags. Later that afternoon, Gwen and all of our parents came to visit. Somehow we were able to sleep that night... (I believe I took a sleeping aid to help me sleep, actually).

We woke up the next morning, and were scheduled for a c-section at noon. I was still pretty calm until about 11:30, when I realized this was really happening. As they wheeled me into the c-section room, I started to feel sick... Almost as if I was tired or uneasy and didn't want to participate in the conversations surrounding me...then as soon as I entered the OR, I became more alert. I sat up and the anesthesiologist (who I really liked) gave me the spinal block. The nurse who held me was very soothing and sweet and they all kept talking to me and asking me questions. I was very nervous about the spinal block, but I actually not remember it hurting at all. Then I layed down and a little while later the Doctor came in and started. Then soon after my mom and Jeff came in.  They said later that they were surprised because they had already started the operation and had to walk past all of it. Everything went smoothly. I thought I would be more nervous during the procedure, but I actually felt great. The anesthetist at my head was a nice man who kept assuring me every 2 minutes that everything was going very well. I remember feeling a little out of breath, but they told me that was normal, and I didn't panic.

Then I heard a noise that sounded like a cry, but muffled! Then I heard it again louder, but it was gargly. Such a sweet sweet sound! They showed me the baby over the curtain very quickly, and took her to be cleaned and examined. She was beautiful! They assured me she was in great condition and Jeff and my mom went over to take pictures. She was 8 lbs and 19.5 inches long born at 12:39 pm. After what seemed like a long time, they finished sewing me up and brought Penelope over and put her on my chest, skin-to-skin. It was such a great moment, having her on my chest all warm and close and cozy. I loved her instantly.

That first day she cried a lot.  I fed her every hour that afternoon and through the night.  I was starting to get worried that she was colicky right from birth, but the next day she slept easier and there was a little less crying... My milk came in sometime on day 2. Now at two weeks old, she sleeps all the time and I have to wake her to feed her, and she still falls asleep while feeding. She is now 8 lbs, 12 oz, and is thriving.  She has started to cry when placed flat on her back without swaddling, and also will cry a few minutes after a feeding when we place her down swaddled, probably due to a little gas. She has been a great baby so far, and I'm really hoping she keeps this up.  Im still nervous about how it will be when I'm home with both girls by myself, but my parents are staying for a month, so I don't have to worry about that yet.

My recovery has been so fast- even in the hospital after the morphene wore off, I had very little pain.  This second c-section went so smoothly, I'm so happy with how everything went. Also, Gwen has been a great big sister- waking up every morning asking about "baby". We're so blessed to have these two little girls, and I'm really excited about what's in store for us.  I know at times it'll be hard, but I feel prepared to handle it! Check out the cuteness overload in these pics- this is so worth it!

Gwen is 18 months!

On April 8, 2013, Gwen turned 18 months! My baby is a year and a half and I love her so much!
At 18 months, you are now about 30 lbs, and wearing 2T clothes.

Our daily schedule looks like this:
7:00 You wake up, mommy comes and talks to you in your crib for a few minutes, trying to convince you to let me change your diaper.
7:30 We come downstairs and you fuss until mommy gets your milk and banana. We eat on the couch. Playtime.
8:00 Breakfast
8:20 Playtime
9:00 Mommy gets ready in the bathroom while you play with my jewelry, hair gel, make up, your babies, and books
9:30 We go upstairs to get you changed, hair, tooth brushing and face washed. We read a few books in your room.
10:30- Nap time (or if its a work day for mommy, this is when you go to school)
11:30 Lunch
12:15 We go out to play somewhere. A playground, library, mall, etc.
3:00 Short nap (you are still in transition to one nap)
4:00 Wake up and play in play room for a bit.
4:30/5:00 Go play outside until hungry
5:30/45 Dinner and daddy comes home
6:00 Some playtime and or Barney
6:30 Upstairs for bath and get ready for bed

My special little sweetheart, you're personality is growing! You are so sweet; you love to help mommy throw things in the trash and make the bed. You try to follow directions as much as possible.

You love to play and dance. Closing the door and locking mommy out of the bathroom is hilarious.

You are terrified of bugs.

You are officially off bottles! Thanks to grandma's urging.

You love sign language and get frustrated when you can't sign for something. You use "more, milk, all done, mom, dad, book". You also pat your diaper when it's dirty.

You say words: "dada, Dow (dog), baby, moo, quack, nana (banana), ki (kitty), dow (down), coh (close), bowbow (ball), baba (cracker), juju (juice), doo (door) bobo..." You repeat yourself a lot. You call me "baby".

You cry when daddy comes home and kisses you even though you talk about him all day.

At night time you will blow kisses and wave to daddy as he leaves the room. After he's gone, you lay your head on my shoulder and still wave your hand behind you.

You LOVE your babies and have started sleeping with them. You also love balls.

Around 17 months, you had a few weeks when you didn't cry at all, but now you're fussy again and chewing your fingers a lot. Maybe 2-year molars are coming early? You've had 2 ear infections that we know of, in the last 6 months.

You love to go outside and will sometimes start walking to the park down the street by yourself when we get home.

We love you so much!! I hope this new baby doesn't change you! You're also starting a new daycare soon and I'm worried about that!

On another note, this new baby's c-section is scheduled for 6/21/13! Names as options are Penelope, Lainey, Lyla, and (new one) Cecilia ("Cece"). We are not even close to ready for her to come!

Happy New Year 2013!

Ok, so I guess now is as good a time any to announce on the Internet that we're expecting in Mid-June. Most of the people who read this blog will not be surprised. In fact ALL of you people won't be surprised...it just had to be said since I'm going to start chronicling my journey here.

First, my new years resolutions:
1. To live in each moment. Be present and appreciate everything that's happening around me.
2. To write down each day 3 things I'm grateful for in my life. There's an app! U
3. To be physically and mentally stronger.
4. To be more proactive in the evenings (instead of watching tv). Get stuff done. And be creative.
5. Create...whatever it is- food, a sewing item, photos, an art project from pinterest, paint something!

Well, and I realize the last few will be hard once this new baby arrives, but let's just see how things go. I read that you tend to follow through on things if you write them down, so I'm trying it.

So Gwen is now starting at a daycare tomorrow at 15 months old. I'm nervous, but I think it'll be ok. She's so sweet. She understands so much now. Today I asked her if I could change her diaper and if she could get me one and she brought it over to me. I then asked her if she could lay down and she tried to! She's so adorable. She also sits on her bottom and gets anything we ask for. She can say "woof" and "vroom". She answers most "what does a --- say?" questions with one if those sounds. We started brushing her teeth today, and she now drinks mostly from a sippy (with one bottle in the morning and one at night). She has recently bonded with daddy and loves him very much and will go to him without complaining. Sometimes she will run to one of us with her arms out and her mouth wide open and falls into our laps... Her version of a hug. And an open mouth lick is her version of a kiss. She will dance and spin. She loves Bobo and Panda Bear and baby dolls. She scrunches her face when she smiles. She gives high fives cautiously. She loves to read books in your lap forever!

As for this pregnancy, its been...ok. I've had some pretty bad nausea and a few stomach viruses so far, so I've actually lost a few pounds my first trimester. Trying not to worry about that. I'm 15 weeks tomorrow, and at our 12 week appointment, when we had the NT test, that there is an 80% chance that it's a girl. It's called "the angle of the dangle" and if the nub is straight its a girl, and if it's angled up 30 degrees it's a boy. And our little nub was straight!! Poor Jeff! ;) But we won't know for sure until February 5th (my 32nd birthday)!
:) Hope to update again soon!
